Shenango Survives Scare against Penn State Beaver

Penn State Shenango (7-10, 6-0 PSUAC) fought through a tough five-set battle to defeat Penn State Beaver (2-12, 1-5 PSUAC) in a 3-2 victory (23-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-16, 15-13), extending their unbeaten streak in conference play.

Leading the offensive efforts, Cyra Cross posted 11 kills on 46 attempts, adding 21 digs and three service aces for a total of 14.5 points. Sydney Ward contributed 10 kills, two service aces, and 10 digs, accumulating 14.0 points overall. Maggie Briggs had a strong performance with nine kills, a .250 hitting percentage, and four blocks, earning 13.5 points.

Setter Carla Ramirez Ortiz dished out 21 assists while Jade Shattuck added 11 more, along with four kills on six attempts, hitting an impressive .667. Gabby Villanueva Santos chipped in with five aces and 13 digs, making her a key contributor in both serve and defense.

Shenango's defense held strong with Emma Murdock securing 16 digs and Jill Dunleavy adding three kills on a .200 hitting percentage. Shenango's balanced attack and defensive pressure allowed them to secure a hard-fought win in the decisive fifth set, 15-13.

Shenango is back in action on October 3rd against non-conference opponent Grove City College.
