The Penn State Shenango Men’s Basketball team Notched its First Win of the Season

Buffalo, NY - Shenango Men's Basketball (1-2) welcomes its first win of the season over USCAA opponent Villa Maria Vikings (1-2).

In this contest Shenango once again set the pace early in the first half. Jashun Cobb led all scorers with 11 points in the frame. He was helped by The Malik Duo; Davis and Weatherington who contributed 5 pts a piece early in the half. The trio of Shenango sharp shooters were joined by D'Montez Owens who poured in 7 pts of his own, and DiMarius Hill who added a 6 spot for Shenango. John Figueroa capped it off with a three bucket from behind the arch and The Lions tamed the Vikings offense by grabbing 20 boards. The team's accuracy (63% from the floor) and hard-nosed defense helped them to a 41-26 Lead.

The second half saw The Vikings begin to find some open looks against the Lions defense. Villa Maria's Rhalon Bragg netted 17 points as he went 9/10 from the field. His pace was not matched but inspired tough play from The Vikings Jeriah Williams who posted 12 points of his own. Shenango did not cave to the onslaught of The Viking duo, as Owens put together an impressive half of basketball as well. The Fr Guard from Warren, Oh posted 15 pts, 4 rebounds, and dished out two assists to pace The Lions in the second frame. Hill added 11 buckets of his own and Figueroa was invaluable off the bench as he notched 7 points to pace the way from the pine.

The Lions defense bent but Cobb and Weatherington refused to let it break. Cobb grabbed 5 boards, and Weatherington grabbed 3 rebounds of his own to go along with three much needed steals and Shenango capped off their three-game road trip with an 83-71 victory.

Penn State will host these same Villa Maria Vikings this coming Wednesday, November 10th for their 2021 home opener at The F.H. Buhl Club for a 7:30 tip.
