Shenango Baseball Impresses in First Ever PSUAC Tournament Appearance

Penn State Shenango Baseball made a strong statement at the 2025 PSUAC Tournament, held May 2–4, showcasing resilience, teamwork, and offensive firepower in a competitive postseason run that included two hard-fought wins and a pair of tough losses.

Game 1 – Shenango 12, Penn State Greater Allegheny 6

May 2, 2025 (Afternoon)

Shenango opened the tournament in dominant fashion, riding a hot offensive start to a 12–6 victory over Penn State Greater Allegheny. The team erupted for nine runs in the first two innings, immediately putting pressure on the opposing defense.

Sophomore outfielder Troy Bachman went 3-for-4 with a double, a homerun and six RBIs, setting the tone for the lineup. John Perry also made his presence felt, going 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. On the mound, Nick Osborne earned the win, tossing five solid innings with three strikeouts and four earned runs allowed.

The win allowed Shenango to stave off elimination and sent them into the double-elimination portion of the bracket.

Game 2 – DuBois 9, Shenango 0

May 2, 2025 (Evening)

Just hours later, Shenango squared off against perennial powerhouse Penn State DuBois and encountered their toughest challenge of the season. DuBois' ace, Connor Cherry, held Shenango to just three hits over his seven-inning complete game, and Shenango was unable to mount any offensive momentum in a 9–0 shutout loss.

Defensively, Shenango struggled to contain DuBois' high-contact lineup, allowing 14 hits. Relief pitcher Luke Atterholt held DuBois scoreless over the final inning, preventing further damage and preserving arms for the following day.

Despite the loss, Shenango remained alive in the double-elimination format and would face another elimination game the next morning.

Game 3 – Shenango 7, Penn State Schuylkill 4

May 3, 2025 (Morning)

With their season on the line, Shenango rebounded with a gritty 7–4 win over Penn State Schuylkill in the tournament's third game. Sophomore John Perry sparked the offense with a 2-for-4 performance that included two doubles, while freshman Remington Hart added a 2-for-3 effort with an RBI and two runs scored.

On the mound, starter Nate Evans went all seven innings, allowing four earned runs while striking out six. The win moved Evans to 5-2 on the season.

The win not only kept Shenango's championship hopes alive but also demonstrated their ability to bounce back from adversity with poise and execution.

Game 4 – Penn State Mont Alto 8, Shenango 7

May 3, 2025 (Evening)

In their second game of the day, Shenango faced another elimination showdown, this time against Penn State Mont Alto. Despite falling behind 4–1 after an inning, Shenango clawed back several times and took a late lead. The offense was led by homeruns from Remington Hart and Logan Cypher.

Shenango would relinquish that lead in the bottom of the sixth, and the game would eventually come down to the wire, with Shenango trailing by one in the top of the seventh. Mont Alto's closer induced a 1-2-3 final inning, eliminating Shenango in heartbreaking fashion.

Season Reflections and Looking Ahead

Shenango finishes their 2025 PSUAC Tournament run with a 2–2 record and heads into the offseason with optimism. The team's strong showings in key moments — including their 12-run opener and resilient win over Schuylkill — highlighted both leadership from veterans like Osborne and breakout performances from underclassmen such as Perry and Cypher.

With much of the core roster eligible to return, the future is bright for Penn State Shenango Baseball. Their performance at the 2025 PSUAC Tournament is a clear sign that this program is on the rise.
