Shenango Women's Basketball tops off Incredible Season with Playoff Berth

SHARON, PA - The Penn State Shenango Women's Basketball team concluded its 2022-23 regular season on Tuesday, Feb. 21, in grand fashion with an 80-51 win at home over Penn State Fayette. The win was their 14th conference win of the season (16th overall), which earned them the #3 seed in the PSUAC West and a trip to the postseason tournament. Shenango travels to Penn State Greater Allegheny for a 1 p.m. tip off on Sunday, Feb. 26, in a win-or-go-home game against the same team that ended their season a year ago.

In just the second season of the women's basketball program at Penn State Shenango, the Lady Lions have proven they can compete and succeed against conference opponents, and others in the USCAA. The season began with a tip-off tournament where Shenango dropped a close loss to now #3-ranked UC-Clermont. From there, the Lions rattled off eight consecutive conference victories that would propel them to a 14-5 conference record. Injuries and illnesses took a toll on them at times during the season, but the Lions are now fully healthy and playing well as they head into the postseason.

With a win on Sunday, Shenango would advance to the PSUAC semifinals where they would meet an Eastern division opponent on Wednesday, March 1 (time and location TBA). The championship game is scheduled to be played at the Bryce Jordan Center at University Park on Monday, March 6th (3:45 PM). The winner of the PSUAC Tournament then receives an automatic bid to the USCAA Tournament in Richmond, Virginia. However, Shenango is also under consideration for an at-large bid to the tournament.
