STATE COLLEGE, Pa – Shenango Volleyball Freshman, Emily Bortnick, was awarded Volleyball Specialty Player of the week by the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC).
Bortnick was nominated due to her dominating performance during the PSUAC Crossover weekend on Sunday, October 10. Shenango came home with two wins (3-0 each) vs. Penn State Wilkes Barre and Penn State Scranton. During the matches, Bortnick recorded 20 service aces, 16 of those during just one match. The setter from Conenautville, PA also tallied 89 assists and 10 additional aces from matches vs. Penn State New Kensington and Penn State DuBois that week.
"Although Emily is a freshman, she shows a tremendous amount of leadership on and off the court. Her stats speak for themselves. It was a no-brainer to nominate her, and I'm glad she was awarded. I can't wait to see what else she brings on and off the court over the next 3 years."
Bortnick currently leads Shenango in assists with 211 for the season. She has also tallied 44 service aces, 22 kills, and 84 digs this season.
Shenango is back in action on Sunday October 17th at Penn State Mont Alto at 3:00 pm. The Lady Lions will return home on Monday, October 18 for the pink out game vs. Penn State Beaver.
