Penn State Shenango Cross Country runners made a strong debut at the Buhl Day 5K, led by Faith Sullivan, who delivered a stellar performance. The freshman from Youngstown, Ohio, claimed the top spot among the women's field, finishing 5th overall with a time of 19:49.90, averaging a 6:24/mile pace.
Not far behind was Sarah Christy, a Greenville native, who secured 16th place overall and 1st in the women's 15-19 age group, crossing the line in 22:31.93. Her teammates, Emmy Riddle and Claire Brown, both clocked solid times, finishing in 18th and 49th place, respectively. Riddle posted a 22:52.43, earning 2nd place in her age group, while Brown completed the course in 26:43.43, securing 4th in the same category.
On the men's side, Jonathan Smith put up a commendable effort, finishing in 47th place overall with a time of 26:30.66. The Georgia native also claimed 3rd place in the men's 15-19 age group.
Tyra Alston rounded out Shenango's results, finishing 69th overall with a time of 29:58.95, placing 5th in her age group. The team's performances were a great start to the season, showcasing the depth of talent across the inaugural roster.
