Shenango Men Play Tight Against Scranton; Lose to Hazleton

The Penn State Shenango Men's Basketball team faced a challenging weekend with back-to-back games against Penn State Scranton on Friday and Penn State Hazleton on Saturday. Despite strong individual performances, the Lions fell short in both contests but displayed their resilience and determination as they prepare to face Penn State Greater Allegheny on Tuesday at 8 PM.

On Friday, Shenango battled against Scranton in a high-scoring matchup but came up just short, losing 101-94. Malik Davis led the Lions with a game-high 23 points and added eight rebounds. D'Montez Owens was equally impressive, contributing 21 points, eight rebounds, and seven free throws. Izzy Santiago chipped in 15 points, while Devin Alston delivered 14 points, shooting an efficient 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Cameron Brown rounded out the starting lineup with 12 points and five assists. As a team, Shenango shot 42.2% from the field and 35.5% from three-point range but struggled at the free-throw line, converting just 59.1% of their attempts.

The following day, the Lions faced Hazleton and endured a tough 102-75 loss. Despite the outcome, Owens once again stood out, scoring 25 points and going 9-for-11 from the free-throw line. Davis contributed 19 points and seven rebounds, while Alston added nine points with three triples. Off the bench, Izzy Santiago provided six points and three rebounds. Shenango improved their free-throw shooting to 78.6% but faced difficulty containing Hazleton's offense, which shot 57.4% from the field and 46.4% from three.

The Lions showed grit and teamwork throughout the weekend and will look to regroup as they take on Greater Allegheny. With key players like Owens and Davis leading the charge, Shenango aims to bounce back and secure a crucial victory.
