PENN STATE SHENANGO FALLS IN HOME OPENER 84-71, TO FRANCISCAN UNIVERSITY

SHARON, PA- Behind a strong shooting effort from three point range the Franciscan University outlasted the Penn State Shenango Lions 84-71. The Barons canned 13 three pointers on the afternoon and hit 30 of 62 overall to spoil the Lions home opener.

The Lions (0-1) crawled within 4 points at the 6:30 mark on a pair of Ramell Askerneese free throws, 68-64, but could not hold on. Askerneese (Sharon, PA) finished with 10 points and 4 assists for the game while Tyrone Steals (New Castle, PA) led he Lions effort with 15 points on the afternoon. Anthony Bailey (New Castle, PA) chipped in with 12.

Franciscan University, who out rebounded the Lions 45-27, were led by Joe Schriner's 14 point, 8 rebound, 5 assist effort, while Sean Hickey, last year's team leading scorer, canned 15 points, 9 on three's. T Frankovich added 11 points and 10 boards for the victors.

The Lions return to the floor again on Wednesday night to try to avenge last season's 88-69 loss versus Kent State Tuscarawas last December. The game will be played at the home of the Lions, the Buhl Recreation Center. Tip off is set for 7:00 PM.
