Mason Squared: Walker and Bevan Deliver the DH Sweep

The Penn State Shenango Baseball team played on back-to-back days this past Tuesday and Wednesday, going 2-and-1 over the three-game span.

Tuesday night saw Shenango head to defending USCAA Champion-Penn State DuBois for a Top 15 showdown. And the #2 ranked team in the country showed why they are deserving of that ranking as the DuBois pitchers combined for a no-hitter, giving up only four walks in seven innings. The DuBois offense went to work early as well, leading to an easy 12-0 win for the home team.

On Wednesday, Shenango headed home to Eastwood Field to take on the Westmoreland County CC Wolfpack. In Game 1, WCCC got off to a hot start, putting up three runs in the first two innings. In the bottom of the 4th however, the Lions' bats finally awoke, plating ten runs of their own and taking a 10-5 lead. It was all Shenango the rest of the way as the Lions put up two more in the 5th and ran away with a 12-5 win over the Wolfpack.

Game 2 was a tightly-contested game as the teams were locked in a pitchers' duel. Shenango broke the 0-0 tie in the bottom of the 4th inning but WCCC followed it up in the top of the 5th inning with a run of their own. The game was pushed to the 11th inning, still tied at one, when Mason Bevan hit a Walk-Off Grand Slam to win the game, 5-1. Starter Mason Walker went nine strong innings, giving up only four hits and one run, while striking out 13.

The Lions are back in action on Saturday, April 13th when they travel to CCAC for a doubleheader starting at noon.
