Handful of Shenango Student-Athletes Take Home Conference/National Awards

SHARON, PA - The Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) announced its All-Conference basketball awards on Friday, March 3rd, as did the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) on Sunday, March 12th. Four Penn State Shenango student-athletes were honored in total, two of which were honored by both organizations.

Sophomore guard D'Montez Owens received All-Conference 2nd-Team honors. Owens averaged 16.9 points per game this past season, as well as 3.8 rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 1.9 assists. He eclipsed the monumental 1,000-point plateau for his career in the final game of the season on February 21.

A trio of Shenango athletes on the women's side took home honors as well, including sophomore forward Hailee Aguinaga, who was recognized on the PSUAC West 1st-Team and the USCAA 2nd Team. Aguinaga built off a remarkable rookie campaign to the tune of an even more impressive second season, leading all of the PSUAC with 12.2 rebounds per game. She also finished 3rd in the conference with 1.9 blocks per game, all while totaling 10.9 points per game.

Joining Aguinaga on the women's side were guards Aneziah Fryer and Shar'Da Williamson, who were both honored on the PSUAC West 2nd-Team. Fryer was also recognized as an honorable mention on the national stage. This marks the second all-conference recognition in two seasons for Fryer, finishing this year with 12.8 points per game, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.2 assists. Williamson, a mid-season transfer, made an immediate impact on the Lions by averaging a double-double of 14.2 points per game and 10.0 rebounds.

Each team also had one player awarded the John Fritz Sportsmanship Award, which is given to the player on each team in the PSUAC that best displays good sportsmanship and demonstrates ethical, appropriate, polite and fair behavior while participating in athletic events and as a member of their team. Shenango's recipients were Karsyn Rupert of the women's team, and Garrett Hamrick of the men's. In addition, three Shenango student-athletes were recognized as USCAA Academic All-Americans: Jeremiah Green, Kyle Jackson, and Karsyn Rupert, who all maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher throughout the academic year.

Congratulations to all of the conference and national honorees!
