A Sit-down with Shenango’s Superstar: Aneziah Fryer

SHARON, PA - "He's the one who put the basketball in my hand when I was really young," Shenango's sophomore point guard Aneziah Fryer said of her father. "He played basketball his whole life, he inspired me to play." Using the motivation from her father, Fryer has led a talented group of Shenango Lions to an incredible 10-3 record in conference play so far this season. She is excited about how far the Lions have come in the first year-and-a-half of the program, however her best basketball memory was hitting the coveted 1,000-point mark in high school. "I wanted to do it, but I didn't think I would be able to," Fryer said of the achievement. "When I hit that mark, it was definitely the top-tier memory for me."

It hasn't been all sunshine and roses for the reigning USCAA All-American, who has experienced a multitude of injuries in the past few seasons. Shin splints, calf tightness, and a concussion have all hampered Fryer on the court, admitting that these are the biggest challenges she has faced in her basketball career. Fryer wishes that she would have trained more as a younger player. "If I would have started training more when I was a little bit younger, I think I could probably be a little bit better than I am today."

Outside of playing basketball for Penn State Shenango, Aneziah Fryer is just like the rest of us. "I like watching football, I like to relax and watch Netflix." Her favorite food is Mac & Cheese and she loves to watch her Phoenix Suns, and with a smile on her face she proudly stated that Justin Bieber is her favorite artist. Above all, Fryer is simply grateful for the opportunity to be here at Shenango. "I like how small the campus is, I think I know almost all of the professors and the students," Fryer said. "The opportunity that I have {to play a college sport} is amazing."
