Shenango Dominates Dubois, Sweeps Evening

SHARON, PA - The Shenango hoops teams had everything going for them on Tuesday night at the Buhl Club, with both teams defeating PSU DuBois in dominant fashion. January had started to become a lull of sorts for Shenango, as both teams are in the midst of a stretch of 6 games in 15 days, but not on this night.

WOMEN

One sign of a great team is when you can win even when the opponent shuts down your best players, as was the case tonight, with DuBois holding Shenango's leading scorer Aneziah Fryer to only 6 points. So Shenango needed others to step up, and sophomore forward Alli Lewis and sophomore guard Jaysina Sellers did just that. Lewis led the team with a career-high 23 points on 7-10 from the field and 9-11 at the free throw line, and Sellers added a career-high 17 of her own off the bench. Not to be overshadowed, sophomore center Hailee Aguinaga also posted an 18 point, 12 rebound double-double. The game was played at a remarkably consistent pace, as Shenango scored exactly 23 points in each of the first three quarters, and held DuBois to exactly 11 points in each of the final three quarters. This was the second win in a row for Shenango, as they remain in a battle for the #1 seed in the PSUAC West.

MEN

Looking to avenge an early season loss to DuBois, the Shenango men came out firing and would leave no doubt about this one. Similarly to the women, DuBois held Shenango's leading scorer D'Montez Owens to only 8 points and held the five Shenango starters to only 40 combined points. But, the Shenango bench had the best night of its season, scoring 54 total points behind double-digit efforts from three players. Eric Howard led the lions with 19 points, followed closely by Jeremiah Green with 18, and Ronnie McClain with 17. Even Sincere Lopez added 11 off the bench, knocking down three consecutive three-pointers at one point in the second-half. The Shenango defense was on display as well, holding DuBois to a miniscule 16.7% (4-24) from three-point land. It was a team effort for Shenango, as they climb to within a game of the 4th seed and playoff contention in the PSUAC West.

Both teams are back in action this weekend with a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at 1/3 PM, hosting PSU New Kensington at the Buhl Club!
